What is vMix?

vMix is a highly versatile, software-based live video production and streaming mixer designed to run on the Windows operating system. Unlike traditional, expensive hardware video switchers, vMix leverages modern PC and GPU (graphics card) power to mix, switch, record, and live stream high-definition (HD) and 4K video sources.

It has become an industry standard for independent broadcasters, digital news publishers, corporate AV teams, and live event producers because it provides a complete “studio-in-a-box” workflow at a fraction of the cost of legacy broadcast hardware.

Key Technical Features

  • Simultaneous Streaming, Recording & Output: vMix can simultaneously push a live stream to multiple social platforms (like Facebook Live, YouTube, or custom RTMP servers), record a high-quality master file directly to a hard drive, and send the output feed to physical studio screens or projectors.
  • Deep NDI Integration: Features native, extensive support for Network Device Interface (NDI) technology. This allows vMix to send and receive high-quality, low-latency video and audio over a standard local area network (LAN), dramatically reducing the need for expensive physical SDI/HDMI cabling.
